Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy
Do you have questions about therapy? I have tried to answer the most common questions here. But if you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact me
Yes, absolutely. Confidentiality is the absolute foundation of a safe therapeutic relationship. Everything you share in our sessions stays between us.
There are only a few legal, and ethical exceptions to this, such as if I believe there is a risk of serious harm to yourself or someone else. In the unlikely event that I ever need to break confidentiality, I will always aim to discuss this with you first. As a professional, I also regularly discuss my client work with my qualified clinical supervisor to ensure I am providing you with the best possible care, but your identity is always kept completely anonymous.
Think of the first session as a gentle introduction rather than a test. While it is technically an intake session where we gather some background details, its main purpose is to see how it feels for us to sit together.
We will look at what has brought you to therapy, explore your current challenges, and discuss what you hope to get out of our time together. We will also briefly cover the practicalities like our counselling contract and confidentiality. There is absolutely no pressure to have your thoughts tidied up or to be the “perfect client”, you can just show up exactly as you are.
There is no one-size-fits-all answer, as everyone’s healing journey moves at its own pace.
- Short-term therapy: Some clients choose a brief, focused block of sessions (typically 6 to 12 weeks) to work through a specific, current life transition or coping strategy.
- Longer-term therapy: Others prefer open-ended therapy to gently untangle deeper, long-standing patterns or past trauma.
We will regularly check in and review our progress together so you always feel in control of your journey. You can leave therapy whenever you want to, there is absolutely no obligation to stay for a certain amount of time.
I understand that life can be unpredictable and schedules change. I kindly ask for at least 24 hours] notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session.
Because that hour is specifically reserved for you, cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice, or missed appointments, will be subject to the full session fee. This policy ensures I can keep my practice sustainable and offer the time slot to another client if needed.
Yes, I offer flexible options to suit your lifestyle and comfort level:
Telephone: Ideal if you prefer a break from the screen or find talking while walking or resting in your own space more freeing.
Face-to-Face: Sessions are held in a comfortable, private consulting room in Tytherington, Macclesfield.
Online: Secure video sessions from the comfort of your own home.
I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). This means my practice adheres strictly to a rigorous Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. Choosing a BACP-registered therapist ensures that you are working with a qualified professional who meets high standards of safety, competence, and accountability.
While I support clients through a wide range of life challenges, I specialise in helping women who are caught in the exhausting cycle of over-thinking, over-delivering, and constant people-pleasing.
If you are a dependable, high-functioning professional or caregiver who feels like your worth entirely disappears the moment you stop producing or helping, my space is for you. My approach is integrative and trauma-informed, meaning I draw from Person-Centred Therapy, Psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and trauma awareness to help you look past the performance, establish a genuine sense of safety, and finally breathe.
